Cristiano Ronaldo will start on the bench for Portugal’s upcoming match against Denmark, coach Jorge Jesus said, insisting the decision carries no underlying problems with the veteran forward.
Jesus confirmed he had already informed the five-time Ballon d’Or winner that he would not feature in the starting lineup against either Norway or Denmark. “There are no issues with Cristiano. We spoke as I told him he was not gonna start against Norway and Denmark, Cristiano’s aware of that and there’s no problem at all,” the coach stated.
If preparations proceed as expected, Jesus indicated that striker Gonçalo Ramos is lined up to lead the attack. “If all goes to plan, the starting striker tomorrow is Ramos,” he added.
The announcement comes ahead of Portugal’s fixture against Denmark, with Ronaldo, who continues to represent his country at the highest level, prepared to provide impact from the substitutes’ bench rather than from the first whistle.
