Veteran Nollywood actress Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has spoken candidly about the realities of her nearly three-decade marriage, saying her husband knows she does not love him constantly and that the couple does not treat their union as something sacred.
In comments made during an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, the actress, married to Captain Matthew Ekeinde since 1996, said: “My husband knows that I don’t love him all the time. There are days that I’d see fantabulous guys and I’d be like I picked this one (my husband) over you?”
She added that her husband understands her personality and that they view their relationship as a partnership rather than an untouchable institution. “My husband knows who I am and we don’t carry marriage on the head like it’s something sacred. Our marriage is not that serious,” Omotola said.
The couple, who have four children, have previously described their bond as one based on mutual choice, respect for each other’s individual journeys and space. Omotola has also said that on days when romantic feelings wane, she turns to her faith, honouring the commitment she believes God has given her.
