Julius Agwu Breaks Down Over Past Betrayals, Health Battles

Comedian and actor Julius Agwu broke down in tears while reflecting on years of personal and professional hardship, accusing those close to him of abandoning him during his darkest moments.

In an emotional video that has circulated widely, Agwu, visibly distressed, said: “Anybody wey get hand for wetin happen to me. That person….” before dissolving into tears. He later added: “I will be like this…. I go dey like this, which kind life be this. I dey look, my friends deserted me. This bishop wey dey talk now was managing me… My money…. It’s well.”

Friends present at the gathering tried to console him, offering words of support and calling for a beer to calm him. One urged: “Sorry sorry. Abeg make them bring beer for him.” Others praised his enduring contributions to the entertainment industry.

“The work you have done and the work you don do, your legacy, na forever, even if you no do anything again, your posterity…. If you do nothing else for us, you have done enough oh…. Bros you don try for this industry so,” one friend said. Another added: “The most important thing be say your life still dey with you, you still dey…. You know how many people don die now wey no even achieve wetin you achieve? For wetin they show yesterday, they sing, they honor you.”

Agwu’s outburst stems from a series of severe challenges that began in 2015. He was diagnosed with two brain tumours that caused seizures and required emergency surgery in Houston, United States. The operation left him with complete memory loss and an inability to walk properly for months, forcing him to relearn basic functions.

The tumours returned, leading to a second brain surgery in 2016. In total, Agwu has undergone three brain operations. During his prolonged illness, he has alleged that trusted associates, including friends and a manager he referred to as a bishop, mishandled his finances and abandoned him.

His personal life suffered further when his 14-year marriage to Ibiere ended in 2022, with his wife leaving with their children — a development he has described as more devastating than the health crisis itself. The combined toll sidelined his comedy career for years, during which he lost significant weight and faced existential doubts about his future.

Despite the setbacks, supporters have pointed to Agwu’s lasting impact on Nigerian entertainment, noting recent tributes that included performances of his songs in his honour.
