Anambra Lawmaker ‘Azikiwe’ Urges Legislative Support For Teachers

The lawmaker representing Onitsha North One Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly, Barrister Mimi Ifeoma Azikiwe, has described teachers as “silent architects” of societal progress and nation builders, calling for stronger legislative support for the profession.

Honourable Azikiwe made the call on Tuesday during plenary while seconding the motion for adjournment, as she joined others in celebrating teachers and acknowledging their contributions to society.

According to her, teachers do more than impart knowledge, as they also play a vital role in shaping character, inspiring curiosity and preparing younger generations for the future.

“Our teachers serve as silent architects of our progress and the vital backbone of our future.

“They do more than just transfer facts from textbooks or teach children. They cultivate character, ignite curiosity and build a new generation of people. All of us are here because we passed through the classrooms.

“Teachers have built us and made us what we are today.

“As lawmakers, we should remember that behind every successful professional, community advocate and policy leader stands a teacher who once guided them.

“For that reason, we owe them our legislative support.

“Our words of appreciation must be matched by structural commitment. We have to ensure safer classrooms, robust resources and the compensation that these dedicated professionals deserve,” she said.

The lawmaker commended teachers who continue to serve despite various challenges, noting that their contributions remain critical to the development of individuals and society.

“To all dedicated educators shaping our future against all odds, your sacrifices are seen, your impact is immeasurable and your work truly matters,” Azikiwe added.
