Anambra Assembly Commends Soludo For Intervening In Aguleri-Umuoba Anam Conflict

The Anambra State House of Assembly has commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for his swift intervention in the communal conflict between Aguleri and Umuoba Anam communities in Anambra East Local Government Area.

The commendation followed a motion sponsored by the member representing Anambra East Constituency, Barrister Obi Nweke, during Tuesday’s plenary.

Moving the motion, Nweke expressed deep concern over the sudden outbreak of communal hostility between Amaeze-Aguleri and Umuoba Anam, which he said stemmed from a lingering dispute over land and resources.

The lawmaker said the conflict threatened lives and property, disrupted socio-economic activities and posed a potential danger to the broader peace and stability of Anambra East and the state at large.

Nweke also commended the Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Boundary Committee, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, the Nigeria Police Force and other stakeholders for their efforts toward resolving the dispute.

He noted that Governor Soludo’s prompt response to the escalation, including the deployment of joint security forces to the affected areas, had helped restore law, order and normalcy.

Supporting the motion, the Majority Leader, Sir Ikenna Ofodeme (Ekwusigo); Barrister Jude Umennajiego (Onitsha South 2); Engineer Emma Nwafor (Orumba South); and the Deputy Majority Leader, Hon. Jude Akpua (Njikoka 2), stressed that sustainable peace and security remained critical to the actualisation of the Soludo administration’s vision of a liveable and prosperous Anambra State.

The lawmakers while condemning the loss of lives, said land disputes should be resolved through dialogue or legal channels rather than violence.

“Taking people’s lives is not acceptable. Land disputes are civil matters and should be handled through dialogue or in court.

“The sponsors and mobilisers of this crisis should be identified and brought to book. The community leaders of these communities should dialogue and negotiate,”.

Also speaking in support of the motion, Rt. Hon. Johnbosco Akaegbobi, who presided over the sitting, commended Barrister Nweke for bringing the matter before the House.

Akaegbobi urged stakeholders from the affected communities to work together to sustain the peace and reconciliation process.

Angel Network News (ANN) reports that the House thereafter adjourned plenary and is expected to reconvene on Thursday, October 8, 2026.
