# The Anambra State Government has thrown its weight behind a Supreme Court ruling against the creation of autonomous communities in the state, urging those advocating for new autonomous communities to abandon the agitation and focus on unity and development.
The position was reached at the 16th meeting of the Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC), held at the Light House, Awka, where the Council also approved projects and deliberated on key issues affecting the state.
ANSEC aligned with the apex court’s position, noting that the creation of additional autonomous communities could fragment existing large communities and trigger confusion and conflicts.
The Council, therefore, advised proponents of autonomous communities to respect the Supreme Court judgement and channel their energies towards uniting and developing their communities within their existing boundaries.

He stressed that all government owned hospitals must comply with approved price lists for services, including physiotherapy, X-rays, laboratory investigations, scans and ultrasound examinations.

The hospital administrator noted that many patients depend on public health facilities as their most accessible option for medical care, warning that excessive charges could discourage them from seeking timely treatment.

# The President of National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) Anambra State Chapter, Comrade Victor Okeke has urged the Federal Government to consider the demands of Nigeria Labour Congress by reducing petrol prices and renegotiate a new national minimum wage for workers as the rising cost of living has made it increasingly difficult for workers to survive on their current salaries.
Comrade Okeke observed that inflation and the depreciation of the naira have reduced the purchasing power of the current ₦70,000 minimum wage, leaving many workers struggling to afford food, rent, healthcare, school fees and transportation.
The NULGE boss pointed out that the two weeks ultimatum given to the Federal Government by NLC to reduce the price of petrol and renegotiate a new minimum wage for the nation’s workforce is a welcome development as workers need a new minimum wage that reflects prevailing economic conditions and enables workers to meet their essential needs.
He also urged Anambra State Government to recruit more workers into the local government system to address manpower shortage and improve service delivery at the grassroots.
Comrade Okeke disclosed that many local government workers have either retired or dead, which he said is causing shortage of personnel in local government councils and affecting the effective discharge of administrative duties and the delivery of essential services to Anambra residents.
The NULGE President maintained that recruiting additional workers would help reduce the workload on existing staff, improve efficiency and strengthen the capacity of local government administrations to meet the needs of the people.
