The Mayor of Njikoka Local Government Area (LGA), Dr. Ikechukwu Okakpu, has reaffirmed his commitment to workers’ welfare, open communication and improved service delivery, announcing monthly incentives for the council’s most punctual staff members.
Honourable Okakpu made the announcement during an interactive session with civil servants at the local government headquarters in Abagana.
The mayor described the civil service as an essential partner in achieving his administration’s development goals, stressing that every staff member had a role to play in advancing the development of Njikoka.
To promote accessibility and open communication, Okakpu personally shared his contact details with the workers, encouraging them to reach out to him whenever they had concerns, required assistance or wished to make suggestions.
The meeting provided an opportunity for staff members to express their views, raise concerns and discuss strategies for improving productivity and the overall performance of the local government.
During the session, the Revenue Officer of Njikoka Local Government, Mrs. Ifeoma Okeke, commended the mayor for the steps taken within his first week in office. She urged him to prioritise workers’ welfare and sustain a supportive relationship with the workforce.
Also speaking, the Head of Local Government Administration (HLGA), Mrs. Anthonia Olieh, emphasised the importance of discipline, punctuality and productivity in the public service, warning that lateness and absenteeism would not be tolerated.
As part of efforts to encourage dedication to duty, Okakpu announced monthly rewards for the three most punctual staff members, alongside special recognition for the overall best-performing employee.
The initiative is designed to promote punctuality, accountability and a stronger performance-driven culture among council workers.
Meanwhile, the administration’s early engagement with staff has raised expectations among residents for more responsive leadership and tangible improvements in service delivery.
Angel Network News (ANN) reports that as the administration settles into office, attention will focus on how its commitments translate into sustainable development, effective local governance and improved living conditions across Njikoka’s six communities: Abagana, Abba, Enugwu-Agidi, Enugwu-Ukwu, Nawfia and Nimo.
