A senator has said President Bola Tinubu does not need to personally campaign for re-election in 2027, insisting the incumbent will win without electoral malpractice.
Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, who represents Abia North in the National Assembly, made the remarks in a video circulating on social media.
“For me, I don’t think it’s necessary for President Tinubu to keep running around campaigning for his re-election in 2027. We are field workers, and we are already doing that for him. President Tinubu will win without rigging,” Kalu said.
Kalu, a former governor of Abia State and member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has repeatedly expressed confidence in Tinubu’s prospects, describing the opposition as weak and the president as having no serious rival.
Nigeria’s next general elections are scheduled for early 2027. Tinubu won the 2023 presidential poll on the APC platform amid disputes over the results.
The senator’s latest comments come as political activities intensify ahead of the polls, with ruling party figures emphasising grassroots mobilisation.
