The Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB) has commenced its 2026 teachers’ promotion exercise, with its Chairman, Dr. Justina Chinyere Anyadiegwu, urging candidates to uphold professionalism, discipline, integrity and adequate preparation.
Anyadiegwu gave the charge while addressing teachers participating in the promotion interview, describing teaching as both a profession and a vocation that requires more than the desire to earn a living.
She noted that promotion comes with increased responsibilities and higher expectations, stressing that the teaching profession demands commitment, exemplary conduct and a strong sense of responsibility towards the education, development and future of children entrusted to teachers’ care.
The ASUBEB Chairman urged candidates to approach the interview with the seriousness it deserved, emphasising that career advancement must be backed by demonstrated competence, diligence, discipline and readiness to assume greater responsibilities.
She cautioned teachers against misconduct, negligence and other actions capable of attracting administrative queries. According to her, teachers, as public officers and custodians of children’s learning and development, must conduct themselves responsibly, comply with established regulations and uphold the professional standards expected of them.
Anyadiegwu also highlighted the importance of proper documentation, accountability and adherence to administrative procedures, noting that teachers’ attitudes to work, professional conduct and commitment to official duties remain essential to effective service delivery and career progression.
She commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for his commitment to transforming the education sector, particularly basic education, through policies and interventions aimed at expanding access to quality education and providing a more conducive learning environment for pupils and teachers.
The Chairman observed that the administration’s commitment to free basic education, improved school infrastructure and better learning facilities demonstrated its determination to strengthen the foundation of education in the state.
She called on teachers to reciprocate the government’s efforts through dedication, discipline, improved performance and renewed commitment to their professional responsibilities.
She stressed that the success of the state’s education reforms depends not only on government investment but also on teachers’ willingness to translate such investments into meaningful learning outcomes for children.
According to her, the ongoing promotion exercise forms part of ASUBEB’s responsibility to maintain a competent, motivated and accountable teaching workforce capable of advancing the state’s basic education objectives and supporting the governor’s vision for educational transformation.
Also addressing the candidates, ASUBEB Consultant, Lady Stella Ezepue, emphasised the need for appropriate conduct and decorum throughout the interview process.
Ezepue urged the teachers to comport themselves responsibly, maintain discipline and approach the exercise with the seriousness expected of professionals seeking career advancement.
In her remarks, the Administrative Director of ASUBEB, Mrs. Florence Chinweze, advised candidates to ensure that all relevant documents required for the interview were complete, properly arranged and readily available for verification.
Chinweze explained that adequate preparation and compliance with the Board’s administrative requirements would help ensure an orderly, transparent and credible promotion exercise.
