Super Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho has rewritten the Turkish football record books by scoring in 10 consecutive matches for Bursaspor, surpassing previous marks held by two national legends.
The 29-year-old scored twice and provided an assist as Bursaspor defeated MuÄŸlaspor 3-0 in the Turkish First League on Thursday, extending his remarkable streak.
Iheanacho broke the deadlock in the 58th minute after receiving a pass from Halil Akbunar, then added a second goal with a left-footed strike from inside the penalty area in the 73rd minute. He later set up Hüseyin Maldar for the third goal in the 83rd minute.
According to Turkish newspaper Hürriyet, the achievement takes Iheanacho past the nine-game consecutive scoring runs recorded by Galatasaray icon Metin Oktay in the 1962–63 season and former Turkey international Saffet Sancaklı with Kocaelispor in 1995–96.
Iheanacho had already set a new Bursaspor club record by scoring in nine successive matches, overtaking the previous eight-game streak held by Fernandao from the 2014–15 campaign.
Iheanacho’s latest contribution takes his tally to 14 goals and three assists in 10 appearances this season since joining the club from Celtic.
The former Manchester City and Leicester City striker has rediscovered prolific form in Turkey after spells in Europe, establishing himself as one of the standout performers in the division.
