Five suspected members of a gang linked to the abduction of 20 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members in Imo State have been arrested by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), the military and the police.
The suspects were apprehended during intelligence-led joint operations in Rivers and Abia States between October 10 and 14, according to a security statement. Three other suspects reportedly escaped with varying degrees of injuries.
The corps members were abducted along the Owerri–Onitsha Expressway on October 1 and rescued on October 7 during a joint security operation at Amakohia Ubi.
Security agencies described the arrests as a breakthrough in efforts to dismantle the criminal network and bring the perpetrators to justice.
