The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Anambra State Secretariat, has provided free medical services to over 120 residents of Ogidi in Idemili North Local Government Area as part of its third-quarter Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers (HIRD).
The outreach, held at Ogidi Town Hall, offered free medical consultations, diagnostic tests and medications, particularly benefiting residents facing financial challenges in accessing essential healthcare services.
The NYSC State Coordinator in Anambra, Mrs. Pauline Ojisua, flagged off the exercise, reaffirming the Scheme’s commitment to community development and improved access to basic healthcare at the grassroots.
Mrs Ojisua explained that the HIRD programme was designed to bring essential medical services closer to rural and underserved communities, enabling residents to access medical attention without the immediate financial burden of consultation fees, diagnostic tests and prescribed medications.
She noted that the initiative also underscored the importance of preventive healthcare and early medical assessment in promoting healthier communities.
According to her, the programme demonstrates how community-focused interventions can complement existing healthcare services while providing practical support to vulnerable residents.
She added that the exercise further reinforced the Scheme’s commitment to community service, social responsibility and the wellbeing of host communities across Anambra State.
Angel Network News (ANN) reports that the outreach attracted the traditional ruler of Ogidi Kingdom, Igwe (Pharm.) Alex Uzo Onyido; the President-General of Ogidi Union Nigeria, Mr Chijioke Ewesiobi; and the Secretary-General, Dr Emeka Muoemenam.
