Google Cloud outage hits Revolut payments, banking services in London

A disruption at Google Cloud’s London data centre on Tuesday affected multiple services, including those of digital bank Revolut, which reported widespread problems with card payments and ATM withdrawals.

Google Cloud said multiple services in its europe-west2 region were experiencing elevated errors and intermittent network failures. The company’s engineering team was investigating the issue.

Revolut’s status page indicated that most of its services were either unavailable or operating only partially. A person familiar with the matter linked the bank’s outage to the Google Cloud disruption.

In a statement posted on X, Revolut confirmed the problems while seeking to reassure customers.

“We are currently experiencing a service disruption affecting multiple services. We can confirm that all our customers’ money and data are safe,” the company said.

Google had not immediately provided further details about the cause or the full extent of the disruption. Some reports attributed the outage in part to a power event in the London area.

Separately, ING Germany reported difficulties with online banking logins and access to its banking app, which it attributed to a technical issue.
