The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, has charged officers of the Command to uphold professionalism, discipline and accountability while strengthening operational effectiveness in the fight against crime.
The Commissioner gave the charge on Tuesday during an emergency security briefing with Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and Tactical Commanders at the Command Headquarters in Awka.
The meeting reviewed the prevailing security situation in the state, operational readiness, supervisory responsibilities and the need for sustained professionalism in the discharge of police duties.
Addressing the officers, CP Nnanna urged them to remain disciplined, vigilant and committed to their constitutional responsibility of protecting lives and property. He stressed the importance of integrity, respect for citizens’ fundamental rights and accountability in the performance of their duties.
He warned that misconduct, abuse of authority, extortion and other forms of unprofessional behaviour would not be tolerated, adding that command responsibility must translate into effective supervision, measurable operational performance and prompt corrective action.
The police commissioner also directed officers and tactical teams to strengthen intelligence-led policing, maintain operational alertness, improve responses to distress calls and enhance collaboration with sister security agencies and relevant stakeholders to prevent and combat crime across the state.
He tasked supervisory officers with ensuring strict compliance with operational directives, proper monitoring of personnel and timely reporting of security developments within their respective areas of responsibility.
CP Nnanna cautioned against complacency, emphasising the need for proactive policing, coordinated operations and effective leadership at all levels of command.
He reaffirmed that the Command would continue to evaluate the conduct and performance of personnel across its formations to strengthen discipline, address operational gaps and ensure that policing services remained responsive to the security needs of residents.
While commending officers who had continued to demonstrate courage, dedication and professionalism, the commissioner urged all personnel to sustain their commitment and work collectively to maintain peace, public confidence and security throughout Anambra State.
