Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo has described Peter Obi as a close personal friend while stressing that the two men hold different political visions.
Speaking in an interview with BBC Igbo News, Soludo said their families maintain strong bonds despite their political paths diverging.
“We are close friends, and our families are also very close. His wife is my daughter’s godmother, while my wife is his daughter’s godmother. But when it comes to politics, we have different visions,” Soludo said.
The governor recalled advising Obi before the 2023 general election to help strengthen the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
“Before the 2023 election, I told him he should come so we could build APGA, not because we were going to win, but to organise our people,” Soludo said.
Soludo, who remains a leading figure in APGA, has previously differed with Obi, the former Anambra governor who left the party and later ran for president under the Labour Party in 2023. The latest remarks underline the personal rapport between the two southeastern politicians while highlighting their separate political strategies.
