Fire Guts Abuja Market

An early morning fire on Wednesday burnt down parts of Karmo Market on the outskirts of Abuja, with property worth millions of naira destroyed.

The fire which was said to have started at about 12am affected mostly makeshift shops before it was put out two hours later by the combined effort of fire fighters, some government agencies and Good Samaritans.

The petty traders’ leader in the market, Murtala Ibrahim, said about 300 shops were destroyed.

City & Crime further reports that a similar incident happened in the market last October, but a trader, Shehu Ahmad, said Wednesday’s incident was more destructive.
