Honorable Timothy Ifedioranma member representing Njikoka I constituency moved a motion that Anambra Assembly invites the head of all local government administration together with the the accountant of local government to appear before Anambra Assembly plenary on Thursday 23rd of June 2022 with the following documents which includes revenue documents, the IGR of the local government from March till date, all bank statement within this period and lastly expenditure report between April and May.
He explained that the last transition council ended with the last administration of the State.
Since the heads of local government are not elected, Anambra Assembly as a responsible legislative body needs to look at their dealings.
He opined that since they were not elected this people reports to nobody then is the responsibility of the assembly to check the workings of the activities of the Local government administration.
“This is 3 months that they assume duty ,so the Anambra Assembly should cross-check so the Anambra Assembly can direct the affairs and policies pending when general election comes up or any other thing Anambra State house of assembly comes up with.
Honorable Douglas Nwachukwu member representing Onitsha North 1 constituency in support of the motion moved by honorable Timothy Ifedioranma he said for three months no election for local government chairman he suggested that is a nice move to be cross-checking the affairs of the local government and also urge the legislative house to support this move.
Honorable Lawrence Ezeudu member representing Dunukofia constituency said that the act of oversight is not to get the scape goat but to make sure that those in authority are doing base on their functions.
During the plenary Ezeudu disclosed that when they might have done thorough checking on the heads of local government they will tell Anambrarians that really solution has come.
Anambra State house of assembly resolved that the heads of local government together with the accountant reports to the house of assembly on Thursday 23rd of June 2022 with the proposed documents.
