Presidential spokesperson Femi Adesina has again admitted that “life is nasty, brutish and nasty” under the regime of President Muhammadu Buhari, however, he’s hopeful that Nigerians will remember his principal for good.
“There’s a struggle going on in the country. The tussle over how the Buhari government would be remembered. Revisionists want him to be pedestaled by just the insecurity ravaging the land, which has made life nasty, brutish and short,” the president spokesperson said in an article published on his Facebook page on Thursday night.
“Yes, we agree that the insecurity is from the bottom of hell, fiendish, Luciferous. But then, it is not peculiar to Nigeria, though it is the duty of government in every country to solve its peculiar challenges,” Mr Adesina added.
While noting that some projects have been executed by the Buhari regime, such as the Second Niger Bridge, he stated that “in the midst of all the humongous challenges, however, development continues.”
Mr Buhari assumed office in 2015, promising to tackle corruption, fight insecurity and pursue economic prosperity for the country. However, since he assumed office, insecurity has heightened as Boko Haram insurgents and bandits continue to kill, and kidnap for ransom.
Also, across the country secessionist groups such as the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Yoruba nation agitators are threatening to balkanise the country.
Recently, Boko Haram seized the Kuje prison, freeing inmates and hardened criminals into the nation’s capital on the same day Mr Buhari’s advance convoy was attacked in Katsina.
These incidents occurred few months after bandits bombed a train en route Abuja from Kaduna, killing many and kidnapping others, with some of those kidnapped still in captivity and awaiting ransom payments by their families.
In May, former President Olusegun Obasanjo slammed Mr Buhari over the worsening insecurity in the country, saying the Buhari-led regime was responsible for banditry and terrorism plaguing the country.
