* Anambra State government has urged it’s indigene to shun the sit at home protest announced by a faction of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB. A release by the state commissioner for information, Mr Paul Nwosu said the attention of the state government has been drawn to the announcement, while describing it as wicked, mindless, retrogressive and unnecessarily punitive. He said the order released in the social media was by enemies of Igbo Nation.Â
* Hundreds of constituents of Anambra Central Senatorial District are set to become Agro-entrepreneurs as the Senator representing the zone, Uche Ekwunife, PhD, embarks on another capacity building programme. The programme is part of the quarterly skill acquisition training programme facilitated by the federal lawmaker. The training which commenced on Tuesday, December 6, 2022, are the last set of training programmes to be held in the current year, in line with the tradition of the Senator to organise at least three training programmes every four months for women and youths of the Senatorial District.
* Less than one month after the Anambra State governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo presented the 2023 estimated budget of the state to the House of Assembly, the lawmakers have passed the budget, to the tune of N259.9 billion. The bill was passed on Tuesday, following the adoption of the report of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation during plenary. Mr Nonso Okafor, the Deputy Chairman of the committee during the passage said the capital expenditure was increased from the initial N164.2 billion to N164.4 billion based on the needs of the ministries, departments and agencies, representing 63.2 per cent of the budget.
* Anambra State Government has urged all eligible candidates to apply to serve as the NPC ad-hoc staff. The application process is quite easy in that all it takes to apply is just a click on the direct URL for the registration portal. The preparation for the 2023 National Population and Housing Census has been put in top gear all over Nigeria. The National Population Commission (NPC) has since announced the commencement of recruitment of ad-hoc staff for the exercise.
* The First Anniversary of Anambra International Passenger and Cargo Airport, Umueri is at once a cause for celebration and sober reflection. It calls for celebration that such a magnificent edifice could be built against all odds, especially as the Covid-19 pandemic raged on and successfully began flight operations on December 7, 2021. The brand new airport built under administration of the immediate past governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, remarkably recorded 142 flights carrying 3,865 passengers in its first month of operation.Â
* Anambra State Deputy Governor, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim, has praised the Anambra State Association of Town Unions, ASATU, for being an active partner in maintaining peace and unity in the state. Dr Ibezim gave the commendation at end of the year annual meeting and security summit of ASATU, during which the association presented award of recognition to eminent personalities in the state. He explained that ASATU and Ndi Anambra made the right choice in choosing Governor Chukwuma Soludo to transform Anambra into a prosperous and livable homeland, and thanked them for joining hands with the present administration to fulfill its solution agenda.
* The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) today Wednesday 7th December 2022 held a stakholders meeting at the headquarters in Awka, the Anambra state capital. This meeting is organized to solicit stakholders cooperation in voter mobilization and sensitization for the conduct of the 2023 general election. INEC is at the peak of activities and preparations for conduct of free, fair and credible elections. In the light of this task, citical stakholders forum is a ladder through which INEC will always deliver on the democratic process.
*Anambra State Health Insurance Agency (ASHIA) has organized a 2-day training for its workers on achieving excellence in Customer Service. The training which was supervised by the Managing Director ASHIA, Dr. Simeon Onyemaechi was geared towards ensuring that ASHIA offers efficient, satisfactory, and professional customer services to enrollees.
Dr. Onyemaechi said,“ the essence of the training is for us to go back and have a better organization, and communicate better with ourselves and the general public; we are not here for ourselves but for our enrollees out there.’’
* The Transition Committee Chairman, Orumba South Local Government Area (LGA), Prince SN Uchendu has received an award of recognition for his support to the Ogboji Town Union, Onitsha Branch and for his other numerous achievements for Ogboji Community. The award was presented to him by the Chairman, Ogboji Town Union, Onitsha branch, Nze Nuel Nwosu at People’s Club Nkpor during their annual end of the year party/investiture. Prince Uchendu while receiving the award commended the Executive and the entire members of Ogboji Town Union, Onitsha branch for finding him worthy for the award.
* The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Awka Capital Territory Development Authority, ACTDA, Mr. Ossy Onuko, says the livable and prosperous homeland Governor Chukwuma Soludo promised to Ndi Anambra starts with adhering strictly to the rule of law, as well as construction codes and guidelines.
Mr. Onuko disclosed this at Ifite Awka during an enforcement against improper channeling of drainage system, which poses threats to the street and people living within the vicinity.
