* Some hoodlums have burnt down the Umuchu Police Station, along the Umuchu-Achina road, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State. Sources said the hoodlums stormed the place at about 3am on Sunday and set the facility on fire. It was gathered that the station was recently renovated by members of the Umuchu Improvement Union as it was destroyed during the #EndSARS protest in 2020. The community leaders, according to the source, had renovated the station and its adjourning infrastructure and upgraded it to fit the status of a divisional police station before donating it to the Nigeria Police Force to help in the fight against insecurity in the area.
* Anambra State Commissioner for Education, Professor Ngozi Chuma-Ude has said that the intent of the present administration on education is to grow skillfully and technologically empowered children, who will become a source of hope for the state abroad. Chuma-Udeh, who disclosed this at a talent show, organized by Ukadike Kingdom Talent Foundation for all public primary schools in Okija, at Saint Peter’s Primary School, Ubahu-Okija, noted that the world has become a global village, hence the need to train children, who will measure up in the global market. She spoke on the adopt a school initiative of the present administration, aimed at reclaiming all the community schools that are dilapidated and raise them to the standard of smart schools, commended the donor, Chief Callistus Ibe, for bringing back his wealth home to impact lives.
*Stakeholders in Anambra Central Senatorial District have condemned the show of shame exhibited by supporters of Senator Uche Ekwunife, candidate of the People Democratic Party (PDP) and her rival, Honourable Dozie Nwankwo of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), fighting publicly at the Enugwu Ukwu Igu Aro festival ceremony in Njikoka Local Government Area of the state.
* Commissioner for Agriculture Anambra state Dr Foster Ihejiofor says government has promised to assist farmers affected by the flood to sustain the food supply in the state.
Ihejiofor, while speaking with reporters in Awka to commemorate this year’s 2022 World Food Day, said the government will assist the affected farmers by providing all the necessary farm tools and crop seedlings to enable them to return back to their farms with ease at the end of the flooding.
* Abor-Ani United Youth Forum has commissioned and handed over several infrastructural projects it built for use by citizens of Awgbu Community, Orumba North Local Government Area. It also distributed foodstuff to indigent people within the community in commemoration of its end of the year party at the community. The projects included a world-class town hall, security post, rehabilitated major roads among others while bags of Rice and cartoons of noodles were shared to widows, the less privileged and physically challenged persons in the community.
* The Anambra Youth Vanguard ((AYV) has decried the high degree of crime in Anambra State especially the kidnapping and outright killings of innocent people in the State. The youth vanguard in a statement released in Awka, the State capital yesterday said in the last three months of 2022, from October to December, more than 91 kidnappings took place in the State, lamenting that some of them resulted in the outright murder of the victims, while others who were lucky paid their way with huge amount of money as ransom.
* The Deputy Governor of Anambra State Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim has called on the Federal Technical Working Group on flooding to produce a comprehensive and holistic report that captures the after effects of the recent flood disaster on the state residents at the end of their visit to the State.
Dr Ibezim made the call while interacting with the team during the tour of some of the flood affected Local Government Areas in Anambra State, as part of the on-the-spot inspection of all the affected Local Government Areas in flood affected areas in Nigeria as part of the federal government’s efforts towards preferring permanent solution to flood disaster in the country. The team visited Anambra East, Anambra West, and Ayamelum Local Government Areas, and will still visit the remaining five Local Government Areas.
* Anambra South Senator and candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) for the 2023 Anambra South Senatorial Election, Dr Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah on Saturday, reassured the good people of Anambra South Senatorial District, that he will always represent them diligently without any form of discrimination at the upper chamber of the National Assembly. Senator Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah made the remarks when he hosted the Yoruba Community in Nnewi at his Umuanuka Palatial abode in Otolo Nnewi. According to him, promoting action policies and programs that trigger the economic well-being of every Anambra South resident regardless of the person’s ethnicity or religious affiliation remains his priority.
* Governor Chukwuma Soludo has condoled with the Machi family of Enugwu Aguleri, over the death of their mother, the Late Ezinne Helen Okwuwa Machi. Governor Soludo, who was at Saint Michael’s Church Ivite Aguleri, during the Burial Mass, encouraged the family to be consoled with fact that their mother lived well on earth. He said that the best way to immortalize her is to live out her good legacies. For the son of the deceased and a Senior Special Assistant to the governor on media, Mr. Pius Machi, their mother was a woman of peace and full of love and kindness, affirming that her death, left a big vacuum no one can fill.
* The Anambra State Ministry of Lands has organized a prayer session for the new year and appreciated God for His grace and mercies in the past years. The prayer session started with worship, praises, and dance by the staff of the Ministry. In a sermon the Rector institute of Theology and Missions Enugu Diocese, Venerable Tim Agbo who spoke on the topic; Be strong and courageous, said despite all the challenges and problems experienced in the past year it is important to thank God for His blessings.
Venerable Agbo charged staff of the Ministry to rise up for the task ahead in the New Year in order to succeed.
