Anambra Power And Rural Electrification Agency Bill Passes Second Reading

 

Constant power outage is affecting business and economic activities – Aforka declears

 

A bill for a law to establish the Anambra state power and rural electrification agency and for related matters have passed through second reading at the Anambra state house of assembly. 

Chief sponsor of the motion Hon. Emeka Aforka the deputy majority leader in his submission said the bill is an innovative effort to create an agency, a corporate body that will have the social responsibility of ensuring that there would be an adequate generation and supply of electricity in the whole of Anambra state.

“Through this bill, the agency will be charged to ensure that there would be appropriate and adequate generation of electricity. If this bill is passed into law, it will encourage the state government to step up efforts in encouraging private partnership of individuals and corporate bodies.

Aforka who is representing Orumber North constituency added by stating that “Constant power outage is affecting business and economic activities but with this agency, Anambra will set the pace for other states. The function of the agency is not only limited to depending on national grid for power generation. 

“Government cannot do everything alone, it requires the efforts and contribution of private individuals who are willing to support. The agency will be empowered to attract investors from all parts of the world to partner with the state on power generation and solar factories will also be encourage the established of solar plants.

Contributing to the passage of the bill, Rt. Hon. Pascal Agbodike the deputy Speaker, Nobel Igwe, Uzoma Eli, Emma Nwafor, Nonso Smart Okafor and Patrick Udoba in there separate submission emphasized that having an alternative power supply will improve the state generally.

“Before any society can be called a developed one, there must be 24 hours power supply. Anambra state is ever ready to embrace development and if we can have an alternative power supply, it will help the state. If we get power supply right, every other thing will follow. 

“There are communities in Ogbaru, Ayamelum and Anambra West constituencies who have not witness or experience electricity for the first time or for years. This bill if passed into law will garantee steady supply that will assist the state for economic development. 

“This agency will provide solutions the ministries are already having. It will also create employment because establishment will be created and the mission and vision of the governor of Anambra in turning the state into a mega city will be achieved. 

Anambra Speaker Rt. Hon. Uche Okafor refered the bill to the committee on Utilities chaired by Hon. Emma Nwafor and two weeks where given to provide a report on it
