* The Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Honourable Uche Okafor has urged Nigerians to make the interest of the nation a priority in all their endeavours. In his Easter message, Okafor noted that Easter offers Nigerians the opportunity to reflect on their lives, adding that since Jesus Christ defeated death, Christians and non-Christians alike are expected to overcome corruption and other societal vices.
* Ndi Anambra have been charged to key into Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s clean, green and sustainable Anambra project. The call was made by an All Progressives Grand Alliance chieftain in Awka, Chief Obi Ochije-Modilim while speaking to newsmen. The APGA chieftain who eulogized Governor Soludo for the project which he said will help rescusitate the Anambra enviroment, called on Ndi Anambra to support and sustaín the initiative.
* The Executive Secretary, Anambra State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Pharmacist Chisom Uchem has said that
the government of Prof. Chukwuma Soludo is working assiduously to ensure that Ndi Anambra have adequate, accessible and effective health care system that would help the state to achieve universal health coverage. She assured that under her leadership, residents of the state will witness an improved and result-oriented primary healthcare system in line with Governor Soludo’s agenda of bringing healthcare services closer to the people at the grassroots level, as well as rural areas.
* Anambra state command of the Nigeria Peace Corps has commended the Nigeria Senate for adopting the report of the Conference Committee to harmonise the ‘Bill for an Act to establish the Nigeria Peace Corps’. ANN reports that the Bill, seeks to establish the Nigerian Peace Corps as a body charged with the responsibility to develop, empower and provide gainful employment to youths, facilitate peace, volunteerism, community service, neighborhood watch and nation building.
* Anambra State Women and Social Welfare Commissioner, Hon Ify Obinabo, has cautioned a repatriated woman who was caught begging on the streets of Delta State, warning her to desist or face the law. Ogochukwu Nwabude, a 32-year-old mother of one, was sent back to Anambra by Delta state authorities for begging on the streets. In her office in Awka, Obinabo criticized the woman’s behavior but also encouraged her to become an agent of change by engaging in a trade to support herself and her child. She then empowered Nwabude with some amount of money to start a business of her choice. However, she warned her that if caught begging again, she would be taken to court.
* The federal government through the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons, NCFRMI. has giving succour to over one thousand persons displaced during last year’s flood disaster from Awba-Ofemili in Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra. ANN reports that the relief materials given to the people by the federal agency were 122 bags of 25kg bags of rice, 122 cartons of instant noodles, 122 bags of semo, 21 cartons of 4.5 litres of canned groundnut oil, seven bags of sachet salt, and 20 cartons of maggi.
* The Managing Director, Operation Clean And Healthy Anambra, OCHA Brigade, Comrade Celestine Anere has warned against building and trading on water channels. ANN reports that Anere gave the warning when he led the officials of the agency to a decongestion exercise at Zik Avenue, Ochanja market, Minaj Junction, among others. Speaking at each of the location, Comrade Anere said gone are the days when traders and developers erect structures and trade on roadsides and water ways, pointing out that the Soludo’s administration is committed to ensuring that the right thing is done at all times.
* Enugwu-Agidi Brotherly Union – Nigeria has held its central executive council meeting.
The event with the theme, “Mending the crack on the wall of our brotherhood”, was held at Enugwu-Agidi Secretariat Complex, Enugwu-Agidi, and had Enugwu-Agidi indigenes in the diaspora participate virtually.
Declaring the event open, the Transition Committee Chairman of Njikoka Local Government Area, Mr. Clems Aguiyi, an indigene of Enugwu-Agidi community, reminded the people that crisis retards development of any community or society, adding that he wants peace in the community.
* It was a joyous moment for the people of Nenyi Umueri in Anambra East Local Government Area as the Senator-Elect for Anambra North Senatorial District, Dr. Tony Nwoye who won the senatorial election under the platform of the Labour Party, completed a road project in Nneyi village Umueri. Dr. Nwoye who represented Anambra East and West Federal Constituency from 2015 to 2019 and Former Gubernatorial Candidate in the State has remained a benefactor of his people despite not being in Government from 2019 to 2023.
*The Traditional ruler of Umuoba Anam, Anambra East Local Government Area, Igwe George Ekwealor has called on Ndi Anambra to support the clean, green and sustainable Anambra initiative of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration. Igwe Ekwealor who stated this while speaking in his Palace at Umuoba Anam said that the initiative will help to entrench a clean and healthy society. The traditional ruler who commended the Governor for his numerous developmental strides, urged Ndi Anambra to support the programme and ensure that they dispose their waste properly.
