* Anambra State Government says it is committed to creating a culture of accountability and transparency for service delivery in its agencies to guarantee sustainable development of the state. The Accountant General of Anambra State, Dr. Chukwudi Okoli gave the assurance during a training workshop for Principals and Bursars of all the secondary schools in the state at Igwebuike Grammar school, Awka recently.

* The newly coronated Traditional Ruler of Igboukwu, HRH Igwe Alexander Azike (Idu Igboukwu) has been presented to the Honourable Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Hon. Tonycollins Nwabunwanne. The presentation done by the Transition Chairman of Aguata Local Government Area, Hon. Dr. Chibueze Oforbuike was in accordance with Anambra State laws. It would also ensure further clearance towards proper recognition and certification by Anambra State Government under the administration of Governor Charles Soludo. 

* Stakeholders in Awka, Anambra State capital, have thrown their weight behind the governor of the state, Prof. Charles Soludo, who, they said, has given the community more sense of belonging than his predecessors.

The stakeholders made this known at a public presentation of 107-year-old man, Ichieukwu Ikwunne Ijomah, to the Ozo Awka group, as the oldest living man in the community (known in local parlance as Otochalu Awka).

* The Archbishop Ecclesiastical Province of the Niger and Anglican Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Reverend Alexander Ibezim, has called on the Federal government to create a conducive and secure environment for the realization of accurate and reliable census figures in the Country. Speaking in an interview on the forthcoming National Population and Housing Census in Nigeria, Ibezim stressed the need for proper enlightenment and sensitization to ensure that the people are well informed about the importance of head count in the development of any nation.

* The Traditional ruler of Awka Community, Obi Gibson Nwosu has called on Nigerians to see the forthcoming Population and Housing census as a national assignment. Speaking in an interview in his palace, Obi Nwosu who described accurate census figures as catalyst for sustainable development charged the federal government to provide a conducive environment that will ensure the realization of accurate census figures in the country. He stressed the need for adequate enlightenment and sensitization on next Month’s National Population and Housing census to enable the people understand its importance to socio economic development.

* Laying of asphalt on the sixteen point eight kilometers Ajali-Akpu-Nawfija-Ufuma-Ogbunka road is to commence in fifteen days’ time.The Project Engineer handling the project, Mr Said Scarf announced this while speaking to newsmen shortly after conducting them round the site.

So far, about three kilometers and two hundred meters have been primed, while laying of stone base has been completed on three kilometers and six hundred meters of the road.

* Coach of Enugu Rangers Abdul Maikaba has praised his players after defeating Wikki Tourist of Bauchi three nil (3-0) at the match day 16 of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) played at the Awka City Stadium in Anambra. Speaking in an interview with journalists after the game, Maikaba said  ‘I’m relieved and satisfied with the result. Even if we don’t have chance in the league, we will shift our attention to the confederation cup because we are sure of our position now. 

* Youths in Anambra State have been advised to key into the state government’s skill acquisition programmes to become self-reliant. The Anambra State Commissioner for Culture, Entertainment and Tourism Comrade, Don Onyenji gave the advice when the Joint Campus Council of the National Association of Nigerian Students Anambra State chapter paid him a courtesy visit in his office in Awka.

Commissioner Onyenji who charged them to be serious with their education, encouraged them to organize themselves and harness the potential in the creative industry.

* The Transition Committee Chairman for Orumba South Council Area, Prince Neville Uchendu has expressed satisfaction with the quality of work going on at the Ajali-Akpu-Nawfija-Ufuma-Ogbunka road.

Prince Neville added that the area is one of the food baskets of the state and the road will give farmers in the area easy access to their various farms, noting that the road is a major short cut to neighbouring Abia and Imo states.

* Textbooks and writing materials worth over one hundred and fifty thousand naira have been donated to the inmates of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Awka Custodial Centre by Anambra State Library Board in collaboration with Nigeria Library Association, NLA, Anambra State Chapter. Also donated to the inmates are different toiletries in commemoration of the 2023 World Book and Copyright Day. Addressing the inmates, the Acting Director, Anambra State Library Board, Mrs. Obioma Obalum, said that the materials were aimed at helping the inmates build their intellectual capacity .
