Anambra 2025 Polls: Gubernatorial Candidates Sign Peace Accord

In a bid to ensure a peaceful, credible, and violence-free governorship election in Anambra State, the flag bearers of political parties participating in the November 8th 2025 polls, has a Peace Accord.

Angel Network News (ANN) reports that the event which took place at International Conference Centre, Awka, the state capital, was organized under the auspices of the National Peace Committee (NPC) and brought together political leaders, security agencies, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), civil society organizations, and traditional rulers.

The Peace Accord Committee was led by former Head of State, General Abdulsalam Abubakar and Bishop Matthew Kukah.

Speaking during the ceremony, the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun emphasized the importance of political tolerance and respect for democratic values, urging all candidates and their supporters to commit genuinely to peace before, during, and after the election.

The IGP reaffirmed the readiness of the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to provide adequate security for the election, stressing that the police would remain neutral and professional in the discharge of their duties.

The Inspector General commended the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP. Ikioye Orutugu for his proactive security engagements and continuous advocacy for peaceful participation across the state.

In their separate remarks, the political party candidates pledged to uphold the principles of non-violence, urging their supporters to conduct themselves responsibly and respect the electoral process.

Reacting, Anambra State Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps
(NSCDC) Anambra State Command, Commandant Maku Olatunde, who also
witnessed the signing of a peace accord by governorship candidates, emphasized the importance of implementing the peace accord and urged politicians to speak out against provocative utterances and electoral violence.

Olatunde also called on politicians to fully commit to the peace accord and help stem election violence and hate speeches.

The NSCDC helmsman noted that the Corps has deployed adequate officers and men to guide electoral materials, polling units, and collation centers, as well as other critical national assets and infrastructure across Anambra State, to prevent vandalism.

The Peace Accord signing marks a significant step toward fostering harmony and mutual trust among stakeholders as Anambra prepares for the November 8, 2025 governorship poll.
