Anambra 8th Assembly Marks 3rd Anniversary: Soludo, Udeze Hails Executive-Legislative Cooperation

The Anambra State House of Assembly has marked its third anniversary, with both Governor Chukwuma Soludo and Speaker Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze commending the strong working relationship between the Executive and Legislative arms of government.

Speaking during the anniversary celebration held on June 12, Udeze disclosed that the 8th Assembly has enacted 45 laws and passed more than 90 motions within three years, all aimed at promoting good governance and development across the state.

The Speaker attributed the Assembly’s achievements to the cordial relationship between lawmakers and the Soludo’s administration, noting that the legislature has also recorded an unprecedented number of private member bills.

According to Udeze, Governor Soludo has assented to 17 private member bills, the highest such record in the history of the state’s legislature.

The Speaker identified the Anambra State Local Government Administration Law as one of the Assembly’s landmark achievements, explaining that the legislation provides practical solutions to local government administration and autonomy. He noted that several states are already studying the Anambra model because of its innovative approach to governance.

Udeze also highlighted the Homeland Security Law, describing it as a critical legal framework designed to address security challenges in the state and support ongoing efforts to protect lives and property.

According to Udeze, the Assembly’s legislative agenda has strengthened cooperation with the executive arm while maintaining the constitutional principle of separation of powers.

Governor Soludo, in his address, reflected on Nigeria’s 27 years of uninterrupted democratic rule, stressing that despite its imperfections, democracy remains preferable to any alternative form of governance and must be protected through collective commitment and responsible citizenship.

The governor praised the 8th Assembly as one of the most productive in Anambra’s history, noting that the Local Government Administration Law has enhanced grassroots governance, improved fiscal management, and facilitated the settlement of gratuity arrears owed to retirees. He added that the Homeland Security Law has further strengthened the state’s security architecture.

Angel Network News (ANN) reports that the Majority Leader, Sir Ikenna Ofodeme, Hon. Anayo Okpalaeke and Dr. Tony Muobike, described the anniversary as significant and expressed gratitude to their constituents for their continued support.
