Governor Chukwuma Soludo has announced that approval has been secured for the establishment of a Nigerian Army brigade in Anambra State as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen security and sustain peace across the state.
Speaking in Awka during the third anniversary celebration of the 8th Anambra State House of Assembly on Friday, the governor disclosed that the new military formation would include the construction of a barracks and the deployment of hundreds, potentially up to a thousand soldiers, to the state.
According to Soludo, a delegation from the Nigerian Army visited him recently regarding the proposed brigade, and the request has now received approval.
“Yesterday, I received a delegation of the Nigerian Army trying to set up a brigade. That has been approved and will be established. They will be building their barracks here and hundreds or up to a thousand soldiers will be here very soon,” Soludo said.
The governor noted that the state is already making significant progress in its fight against crime and insecurity, stressing that peace has gradually returned to communities across Anambra.
Prof. Soludo attributed part of the success to the support and collaboration of the administration of President Bola Tinubu, which he said has intensified efforts to tackle insecurity nationwide.
He expressed optimism that the deployment of the new brigade would further strengthen security operations, enhance rapid response capabilities, and consolidate the gains already recorded in restoring safety and stability across Anambra State.
