A bill for a law on Violence Against Persons Prohibition Bill 2026, on Tuesday, at plenary was red for the third time and passed into law.
Angel Network News (ANN) reports that
the bill sponsored by lawmaker representing Onitsha North One Constituency, Barrister MiMi Ifeoma Azikiwe, was passed after some amendment where made at the ‘Committee of the Whole’

Speaking in an interview with House Correspondents after plenary, Hon. Azikiwe maintained that things have changed and as policy makers, it is time to enact laws that will protect ndi Anambra.
“There is a cyber crime law already, but their is need to get to the root, and this law aims to address sharing of images, videos of people in compromising positions.
” This law is not bias because both men and women are at risk”. Hon. Azikiwe stated
Anambra Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze who presided plenary, stated that the law will take effect from May 15th 2026.
