Governor Chukwuma Soludo has announced that the long-standing disputes surrounding autonomous communities in Anambra State have been effectively resolved.
Prof. Soludo made the declaration on Sunday during a thanksgiving and celebration held in honour of his Aide-de-Camp (ADC), DSP Tony Amadi, at the Light House, Awka.
Speaking at the event, Governor Soludo attributed the resolution of the issues to a recent landmark judgment delivered by the Supreme Court of Nigeria, which he said has provided the necessary legal clarity on the status and administration of autonomous communities across the state.
For years, disputes relating to the creation, recognition and administration of autonomous communities have generated controversies and leadership conflicts in several parts of Anambra State.
According to the governor, the Supreme Court ruling has now settled the legal and administrative framework governing autonomous communities, paving the way for greater stability and effective grassroots governance.
He noted that the judgment aligns with the state government’s efforts to strengthen local administration and ensure that traditional institutions operate within established legal frameworks.
Drawing from the experience of his hometown, Isuofia, which had also faced similar challenges, Governor Soludo said the ruling provides the finality needed for communities and government authorities to move forward without further disputes.
The governor expressed optimism that the development would enhance peace, improve community administration and support the state’s broader development agenda at the grassroots level.
