Anambra Farmers Receive Palm Seedlings, Farm Implements

Farmers across Anambra State have received improved palm seedlings and farm implements as part of efforts to promote economic crops, regenerative agriculture and environmental protection.

The distribution was carried out through a partnership involving the Anambra State Government, through the Ministry of Environment, the Federal College of Agriculture, Ishiagu, Ebonyi State, and TechSave Nigeria Ltd, facilitated by Chief Christopher Ndubisi.

Performing the official disbursement of the palm seedlings and farm implements, the Anambra State Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Clem Aguiyi, said the initiative would contribute to efforts to tackle the state’s growing flooding and erosion challenges.

Dr. Aguiyi noted that tree planting remains critical to protecting the environment, particularly in a state facing significant threats from erosion, flooding and other forms of environmental degradation.

He reiterated the call on Ndi Anambra to adopt conscious and sustainable practices that would protect the environment, adding that the Ministry of Environment, in collaboration with its partners, had established a structure to monitor the growth and progress of the distributed seedlings.

In his remarks, the facilitator of the programme, Chief Christopher Ndubisi, represented by the Project Anchor, Rev. Fr. Benjamin Odika, explained that beneficiaries were selected from the 21 Local Government Areas of the state.

He said the highly improved palm seedlings were expected to attain full maturity within three years, describing the initiative as an opportunity to improve the economic wellbeing of participating farmers while contributing to environmental sustainability.

In a goodwill message, the Deputy Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chukwuma Okoye, commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for promoting a culture of regenerative agriculture in the state.

Rt. Hon. Okoye underscored the economic importance of distributing improved palm seedlings, noting that the initiative would contribute to the empowerment of low-income farmers while also supporting environmental conservation.

The lawmaker further pledged that the Anambra State House of Assembly would review existing environmental laws to discourage the indiscriminate felling of trees and strengthen enforcement mechanisms across the state.

Angel Network News (ANN) reports that each beneficiary received four improved palm seedlings and one farm implement.
