Anambra: Health Facilities Monitoring And Accreditation Agency Bill, Pass Second Reading

A bill for a law to establish the health facilities monitoring accreditation agency 2024 and for connected purposes has been read for the second time at the Anambra State House of Assembly.

Angel Network News (ANN) reports that the Majority leader Hon. Ikenna Ofodeme while leading the motion said, it is a life saving bill which will end the illegalities in the health sector when passed into law.

Hon. Ofodeme who is the member representing Ekwusigo constituency listed the objective, functions and powers of the agency which will be to monitor and set standards for all health agencies in order to increase quality of health delivery and reduce risks of patients.

” This agency will check the drugs administered and its expiring date and the environment of health care centers and will also supervise facilities and fish out fake practitioners”.

Supporting the motion, Hon. Nobel Igwe (Ogbaru one) Hon. Jude Umenajiego (Onitsha South two),

Hon. Tony Mobuike (Aguata two), Chief Whip Hon. Jude Ngobili (Ihiala one), Deputy Majority Leader Hon. Jude Akpua (Njikoka two), Hon. Anayo Okpalaeke (Aguata one) and Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon. Chukwuma Okoya (Awka South two) in their seperate submissions stated that the bill will end quackery in Anambra state.

” Their are a lot of health care practitioners that are not registered and monitored. 

” We have hospitals and healthcare centers that are not properly maned by professionals. 

“Their are too many quacks that needs to be weeded out. 

” A regulatory standard needs to be put in place because their are too many drugs that are not up to standard”. The lawmakers said.

Anambra Assembly Speaker Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze refered the bill to the house committee on health, chaired by Hon. Tony Mobuike who were giving two weeks to report back to the house.

The house adjourned to Wednesday February 21,  2024.
