…Pledge Legislative Support for Women’s Empowerment, Social Welfare
Members of the Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Women Affairs, led by the Chairman, Hon. Mrs. Mimi Ifeoma Azikiwe, have paid a courtesy visit to the Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Mrs. Chinyere Esther Onyekesi, at the Ministry’s headquarters in Awka.
The visit was aimed at exploring areas of collaboration between the Committee and the Ministry towards strengthening policies and programmes that promote the welfare, empowerment and rights of women across Anambra State.
Speaking during the visit, Hon. Azikiwe reaffirmed the Committee’s commitment to supporting the Ministry’s efforts to advance gender equality, women’s economic empowerment and the protection of women’s rights.
She said the lawmakers were ready to work closely with the Ministry in developing and implementing policies and programmes capable of improving the lives of women and families across the state.
Responding, Commissioner Onyekesi appreciated the lawmakers for their interest in collaborating with the Ministry, stressing the importance of sustained synergy between the Legislative and Executive Arms of Government in addressing issues affecting women and advancing their wellbeing.
The Commissioner noted that stronger institutional collaboration would enhance the implementation of policies and programmes designed to empower women, protect their rights and create opportunities for their greater participation in the social and economic development of Anambra State.
She further expressed optimism that the partnership would contribute to strengthening social welfare initiatives and improving the quality of life of women, children and families across the state.
The visit ended on a positive and collaborative note, with both parties reaffirming their shared commitment to promoting gender equality, women’s empowerment, social welfare and the protection of women’s rights in Anambra State.
Other members of the Committee who accompanied the Chairman on the visit were Hon. Jude Akpua, Barr. Ebuka Igwe, Hon. Augustine Ike, Hon. Fred Ezenwa and Hon. Paul Obu.
