The Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze has reassured the citizenry that the State Legislature will always accord the needs of the children of the State full attention with a view to making laws that protect and promote their rights.
Felicitating the children, in a press statement signed by Emma Madu,
Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Udeze enjoined government at all levels in Nigeria as well as the masses to recognize the critical importance of issues that affect the well-being, happiness and growth of the Nigerian children and provide solutions to address them.
The Speaker who revealed that the Anambra State House of Assembly is the first Legislative Institution in Nigeria to pass the Child’s Rights Bill in 2005 which was signed into Law by the former Governor, Dame Virgy Etiaba in 2006, appealed to other States that have not enacted or implemented the Child’s Rights Law to do so in the best interest of Nigerian children.
Rt. Hon. Udeze enjoined parents to instil discipline in their children and to be conscious of their duties to bring up their children with the right orientation, and to bequeath to them peaceful and prosperous society and homes, while urging the children to remain focused and shun acts capable of ruining their future.
The Speaker commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for all his efforts towards the repositioning of the future of the children of the State, especially for making it possible for Anambra children to have access to quality and affordable education through his free education policy in the State, and called on well meaning citizens to contribute to the well-being of the children of the State.
