Anambra To Utilize Community Structures In Strengthening Child Protection : Onyekesi Declares

The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Esther Onyekesi says Anambra State Government will strengthen child protection by setting up functional desks in every local government area, training social workers, and working with traditional rulers and presidents-general.

Hon. Onyekesi, who stated this during the 2026 Children’s Day celebration at the Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka, also maintained that the Ministry will partner with the Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board to continue reducing the number of out-of-school children, especially among the girl child.

The Commissioner said the Ministry will also synergize with non-governmental organizations to provide scholarships for deserving children.

According to her, the government will support mothers and caregivers through skill acquisition programmes and microgrants to stabilize families and ensure that children are safe in their various schools and colleges.

Commissioner Onyekesi, who decried the negative impacts of social media on children, urged them to always internalize the positive aspects of social media in order to become useful citizens. She called on couples to see the development and upbringing of their children as a collective responsibility.

Onyekesi commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo and his wife, Nonye, for all their programmes and policies aimed at improving the lives of women and children, and called on Ndị Anambra to continue supporting and praying for the Soludo administration, which she said has a clear vision and mission for the people of the state.
