Book Launch: The Dreams of a New Nigeria Stirs Hope as Okunna Says OK Movement Is Nigeria’s Last Chance

Awka, July 4, 2026 — The call for a political reset in Nigeria took centre stage in Awka on Friday as stakeholders, academics, civil society actors, and supporters of the Obidient Movement gathered for the public presentation of The Dreams of a New Nigeria: The Peter Obi Movement and the Last Throbs of Hope, a new book authored by Dr. Tony Ogbuishi.

The event, which combined reflections on Nigeria’s current challenges with optimism about its future, presented the book as both a diagnosis of the nation’s deepening socio-political crises and a roadmap for national renewal through the leadership ideals associated with Peter Obi.

THE BOOK: A DIAGNOSIS AND A PRESCRIPTION

The 12-chapter publication argues that Nigeria stands at a defining moment, weighed down by corruption, poor governance, unemployment, insecurity, and institutional decline. According to the author, the country can chart a new course through a leadership model exemplified by Peter Obi—one founded on prudence, accountability, transparency, and selfless public service.

At the heart of the book is a message of hope: “A new Nigeria is possible. It can be achieved through a revolution in the ballot.”

BOOK REVIEW: SCHOLARSHIP MEETS PATRIOTISM

The book was reviewed by Prof. Jerry Chidozie Chukwuokolo, Professor of Philosophy at Ebonyi State University and Fellow of the Association of Philosophy Professionals of Nigeria.

Reviewing the work chapter by chapter, Prof. Chukwuokolo commended Dr. Ogbuishi for his courage and unwavering optimism.

“Despite everything happening in the country today—the despair, the insecurity, the collapse of institutions—the author still dares to dream of a new Nigeria. That in itself is an act of patriotism.”

He described the publication as a timely and intellectually rich contribution to Nigeria’s democratic conversation, noting its philosophical depth and practical relevance.

DIGNITARIES IN ATTENDANCE

The event attracted a wide range of distinguished guests, including:

* Peter Obi, represented by Prof. Chinyere Stella Okunna.
* The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Zenapax Transportation.
* Leaders and supporters of the Obidient Movement.
* Academics, students, and members of the public.

KEYNOTE ADDRESS: “IF PETER OBI DOESN’T BECOME PRESIDENT, NIGERIA IS FINISHED”

Speaking on behalf of Peter Obi, Prof. Chinyere Stella Okunna delivered an address that received enthusiastic applause from the audience.

Describing herself as a “fanatical Obidient,” she revealed that she had initially considered declining the invitation to write the book’s foreword because of her demanding schedule.

“But if someone could find the time to write a book about Obi, why wouldn’t I find time to write the foreword?” she asked.

Having worked closely with Peter Obi over the years, she described him as a world-class leader with the capacity to transform Nigeria if given the opportunity. She also commended the author for refusing to portray Nigeria as a hopeless nation despite its numerous challenges.

She concluded with what she described as her strongest conviction:

“Salvaging Nigeria depends on whether Peter Obi becomes president. If Peter Obi doesn’t become the president, then Nigeria is finished because of all the candidates contesting for 2027 presidential election, peter Obi remaining most qualified, competent in salvaging Nigeria.”

A RALLYING CALL FOR NATIONAL RENEWAL

The event ended with renewed appeals for voter education, civic participation, and increased political mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.

For many attendees, the occasion was more than the unveiling of a book; it served as a rallying call for democratic engagement and a renewed commitment to building a better Nigeria.

Copies of The Dreams of a New Nigeria: The Peter Obi Movement and the Last Throbs of Hope reportedly sold out within minutes of the launch, reflecting the strong public interest generated by the publication.
