Nimo youths convened at the Izuchukwu Centre in Nimo, Njikoka Local Government Area, on Monday, April 20, 2026, for a transformative Peace and Unity Convention aimed at reshaping the mindset of the next generation.
Organized by Dshaikh Izuchukwu, widely known by his traditional title Isimmili na Nimo II, the gathering served as a strategic platform to sensitize young people on peaceful engagement, responsible conduct, and the importance of cultivating a positive worldview.
The atmosphere was marked by deep reflection and meaningful engagement, further strengthened by the presence of key members of the state’s security architecture. In a rare and impactful interaction, these officials held direct conversations with the youths, offering practical guidance on how to advocate for their rights and express grievances within the bounds of the law—effectively bridging the gap between the community and law enforcement.
Delivering a compelling keynote address titled “A Call to Wisdom, Responsibility, and Destiny,” Izuchukwu challenged participants to abandon a victim mentality and embrace personal responsibility for their future. Drawing on enduring principles of character and leadership, he warned against arrogance, the inability to admit mistakes, and the stagnation that comes from intellectual complacency.
He emphasized that the true strength of Nimo lies not in its past achievements, but in the discipline, wisdom, and character of its present youth. Encouraging them to listen more, speak thoughtfully, and remain teachable, he underscored the importance of emotional intelligence in navigating today’s complex society.
A defining moment of the convention came when Izuchukwu addressed the dangerous “paymaster” culture that often fuels local unrest. Speaking candidly, he highlighted how financial desperation can erode moral judgment, leading youths to betray truth and turn against their own communities.
He warned strongly against being “rented” by powerful interests to spread falsehoods or engage in conflict, noting that such individuals rarely stand by them when consequences—legal or physical—arise. His message resonated deeply: integrity is not for sale, and true honour cannot be bought with the cheap coins of betrayal.
Participants responded with gratitude and renewed determination. Comrade Chibuike Okwaji, leader of the Nimo Town Development Union Youth Wing, commended Izuchukwu for his unwavering commitment to youth development, noting that the convention provided a clear roadmap for peaceful advocacy and responsible leadership.
Similarly, Amara Omenikoro, one of the participants, reflected on the importance of unity and kinship, describing the event as both enlightening and inspiring.
The convention concluded on a note of collective purpose, as Izuchukwu reminded attendees that while guidance can be provided, the responsibility to transform Nimo’s future ultimately rests in their hands.
