Burna Boy Admits Slapping DJ Tunez, Taunts Wizkid as “Internet Warrior”

Afrobeats star Burna Boy has gone on the offensive, admitting he personally struck DJ Tunez at a Lagos party while dismissing a group assault narrative, and using the opportunity to launch a stinging public attack on rival Wizkid — accusing him of hiding behind social media rather than confronting him in person.

Speaking during an Instagram Live session, Burna Boy clarified that the clash was not a group assault as widely rumoured, but a direct encounter where he alone slapped the DJ twice, insisting he even warned others not to touch DJ Tunez. (Legit.ng)

“No be 10 people touch DJ Tunez, na only me and na only two slaps I give am. I swear with my mama — if I dey lie, make Ogun carry my mama go anywhere wey Wizkid’s mama dey,” he said, invoking the Yoruba deity Ogun to underscore his claim.

Wizkid Dragged Into the Fray

Burna Boy also expressed disappointment that Wizkid did not reach out privately to resolve the situation, as he had expected, going on to mock the Afrobeats heavyweight for turning to social media instead of responding physically.

His taunt was pointed and direct, delivered in Nigerian Pidgin English.

“Wizkid come go dey tweet. I think say he go send squad. I was still at the club for like 3 to 5 hours. Na internet their own power dey, but na real life my own power dey. I thought he would call his boss, Wizkid, and he will send his squad, but his boss was tweeting instead. What was the point of tweeting instead of coming at me in real life? That means I wasted my time,” Burna Boy said.

Wizkid Fires Back

Wizkid did not let the provocation pass. On Wednesday, April 8, he responded in a strongly worded post on X, writing: “P**** nigga jump a DJ with 10 man carry Diddy towel dey dance. I never saw a fool like this, Diddy babe, for my life.” The post, widely interpreted as a direct jab at Burna Boy, drew over 6.4 million views and more than 100,000 engagements.

Wizkid did not stop there, taking to X again to post a series of pointed messages, including one that read: “Explanation I tweet u carry camera enter live dey explain. F***ing idiot. Videos dey na. Everybody see u still collect one ode.”

A Clash Over Music Selection?

According to eyewitness reports and viral footage, the disagreement began when Burna Boy approached the DJ booth where DJ Tunez was performing. Sources alleged that the tension was sparked by DJ Tunez’s music selection, which reportedly prioritised Wizkid’s discography and unreleased tracks while allegedly ignoring Burna Boy’s presence.

DJ Tunez, for his part, has maintained that the attack was unprovoked and cowardly. He wrote on social media: “YOU HIT ME IN THE BACK OF MY HEAD WITHOUT ME LOOKING!”

Entourages Enter the War of Words

The dispute has now drawn in the wider camps of both artists. Richie Richie, a member of Burna Boy’s inner circle, rejected the “10 vs 1” narrative, writing: “If na 10 men touch you, you think say you fit dey here now to dey type?” He added that videos online showed only the aftermath, not the full sequence of events, while acknowledging that DJ Tunez may have received “a slap.”

Mockery Before the Admission

Even before his Instagram Live admission, Burna Boy had begun taunting DJ Tunez publicly. He shared a video of himself dancing at home while wrapped in a white towel to the song “Money Constant,” pointedly altering the well-known lyric from “Ogbafia dey my side” to “Ogbafia dey for ground,” before dramatically falling to the floor — a clear reference to the viral footage showing DJ Tunez on the ground during the fight.

The Nigerian DJ Association has since announced a temporary ban on Burna Boy’s music pending an investigation into the incident.

The row has reignited long-running tensions between the camps of two of Afrobeats’ biggest names, threatening to pull the industry into one of its most publicly bitter feuds in recent memory.
