Catholic Bishops Urge Interfaith Unity As Muslims Celebrate Eid al-Fitr

Nigeria’s Catholic bishops have called on citizens of all faiths to join hands in building a more equitable and peaceful society as Muslims celebrate Eid al-Fitr, marking the end of the Ramadan fast.

In a goodwill message released Tuesday, the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) extended warm felicitations to the Muslim community and emphasised collective responsibility amid the nation’s challenges.

The bishops stressed that true national progress requires shared commitment from every segment of society.

They declared: “We must all work together to build a just Nigeria,” adding that the spirit of sacrifice and compassion demonstrated during Ramadan should inspire broader efforts towards social justice and harmony.

The statement urged leaders and ordinary citizens alike to reject division and embrace mutual respect across religious and ethnic lines.

It comes as Nigeria grapples with economic hardship, insecurity and calls for greater national cohesion ahead of the 2027 elections. The CBCN has consistently used religious festivals to promote dialogue and inclusive development.
