The Ag. Vice Chancellor, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), Anambra State, Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha, on Monday meet with Portuguese Ambassador to Nigeria, HE, Paulo, Martins Santos to explore areas of collaboration and linkages in language studies.
Angel Network News (ANN) reports that Prof. Omenugha emphasized that her visit to the Ambassador is in pursuance of her resolve to vigorously entrench visibility, which is one of the “3Vs strategic policy which is values, viability, and visibility of the Institution.
“We are with the Head of Mission, HE, Santos, to present our institution as available options for collaborations, particularly in the area of language studies and others.
“We plan to establish an Institute of Language Studies where we could as a university tap into the massive resources in exchange programmes in Languages because we cannot underestimate the power of language in the world today.
“The world is changing, and we must advance including marketing our local languages in Nigeria to the global community.
“We are happy that His Excellency Santos, found our proposal interesting and we will take it from there as we hope to welcome him to our university soon by special grace and he will see things for himself. Our people would welcome the available opportunities.
“Our efforts and prayers are that soon, things will begin to take shape because we must run a University system where we would pay less attention to subventions from the State Government which can only be possible through a value-based education through engagements in practical programmes, certifications and courses that can put food on the table, she stated.
ANN gathered that the Prof. Omenugha also visited Nile University, Abuja, on a similar mandate seeking opportunities for more consultations and deepening the internationalization agenda of COOU.
