Afrobeats star Davido said he regularly speaks with Portuguese football icon Cristiano Ronaldo, describing himself as one of the five-time Ballon d’Or winner’s biggest fans.
The singer made the claim during a livestream with content creator Carter Efe, while explaining his support for Portugal at the recently concluded 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Davido said his loyalty stemmed from friendships with several players in the national squad.
“Because I have a lot of friends in the Portuguese team. I want Portugal to win,” he stated.
When Carter Efe suggested the support was mainly because of Ronaldo, Davido replied: “I love Ronaldo. I’m a CR7 fan.”
He then added in Pidgin English: “I talk to the legend back-to-back.”
To back the claim, Davido briefly showed what appeared to be a chat conversation with Ronaldo on his phone. The move left Carter Efe repeatedly exclaiming in excitement: “God, I don mad! I don mad! I don mad!”
The clip has circulated widely on social media, drawing reactions from both music and football fans. The authenticity of the conversation displayed on the singer’s phone could not be independently verified.
