Davido Downplays Spat with Wande Coal Over Unreleased Track

Singer Davido has sought to clarify the public disagreement with fellow artist Wande Coal that played out on social media, insisting he made no personal attacks and attributing the tension to an unreleased joint song.

The comments came in a recent interview with News Central, after the two musicians clashed online over why their collaboration “Come My Way” was never released.

Asked about his relationship with Wande Coal, Davido said: “With Wande, if you even watch the interview, I didn’t even say anything bad. I just said we recorded a song as an original song, and it ended up not being released.”

He claimed Wande Coal had been seeking his attention for about a year. “First of all, Wande has been looking for my attention for the past year, for some reason I don’t know. He even asked for my number two weeks ago, and I told them not to give him. So he’s just acting like a baby. He’ll be fine. He has somebody to take care of him anyway.”

Davido explained the creative disagreement at the heart of the dispute. “I just said I recorded the song as an original, I didn’t record it as a remix. But he wanted to drop it as a remix, and I was like, no, I don’t want us to do that.”

He added that the wider industry often focuses intensely on him and suggested Wande Coal was struggling with shifting career dynamics. “The whole industry, they always rush to get to David. I’ve known Wande, he’s one of the artistes I looked up to growing up. I know it’s painful to see somebody come from back and overtake them, so he’s not himself in the head. But he’ll be fine.”

When the interviewer asked about his relationship with Wizkid, Davido replied: “I don’t want to answer that question.”
