Lagos State House of Assembly member Desmond Elliot has publicly apologised to Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, and sought reintegration into the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a video circulating on social media, Elliot is seen on his knees pleading for forgiveness over his actions during the party’s primary election in Lagos.
“I’m sorry, I have no excuse, I have nothing other than to say I’m deeply sorry and I am hoping to be cultured in the future,” Elliot said.
The apology follows a dispute that arose after the APC primary for the Surulere Constituency I seat in May. Elliot withdrew from the contest, claiming intimidation and political pressure against his supporters.
He later rejected the primary result and said he would challenge it through the party’s appeal process. Elliot ultimately lost the ticket to Barakat Odunuga-Bakare, who secured 11,385 votes against his 270. Odunuga-Bakare was widely seen as enjoying Gbajabiamila’s support.
