Draymond Green Re-signs with Warriors on 4-Year Deal

New Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. has made his second major move in as many weeks.

After trading Jordan Poole for Chris Paul, Dunleavy has re-signed Draymond Green to a four-year, $100 million contract according to multiple reports. Both moves indicate that the new man in charge has abandoned the two-timeline strategy and is firmly pushing all the chips in the middle of the table to win now.

The final year of Green’s deal is a player option, meaning the three guaranteed years will align with Stephen Curry’s current deal.

According to Anthony Slater of The Athletic, the first year of Green’s deal will be $22.3 million, less than the $27.6 million player option he declined. Cutting that money will save the Warriors around $40 million dollars in tax penalties.

Green, 33, was again an integral part of the Warriors last season, and is just one year removed from playing a key role on a championship team. Green was named to the All-Defensive Second Team last season and averaged 8-7-6 while playing 31 minutes per game during the regular season.

Green has said publicly that he wants to finish his career as a Warrior, and this deal would seem to make that a reality. There was a real question last season as to whether Green’s days in Golden State were numbered, after he punched Poole during training camp, an incident that Steve Kerr said the team never recovered from.

But now Poole is gone, and Green is the one coming back. The championship core of Curry, Green and Klay Thompson will run it back for at least one more season, as Thompson is set to become a free agent next offseason.
