Education minister has said sustained investment in human capital is central to President Bola Tinubu’s target of building a $1 trillion economy by 2030.
Tunji Alausa told an interview at the weekend that reforms in tertiary education, skills training and expanded enrolment were designed to create a competitive workforce capable of driving economic transformation.
“We want to be the manpower supplier of the world. To achieve this, we must produce competent, skilled and educated young Nigerians who will drive our economy, contribute to Africa’s growth and compete successfully across the world,” Alausa said.
He highlighted a sharp rise in health-related training, noting that annual enrolment in nursing schools had grown from about 20,000 before the current administration to approximately 50,000, with similar expansion in medicine, pharmacy and dentistry programmes.
“As the President advances his vision of building a one trillion-dollar economy, education will remain at the centre of that transformation,” the minister added.
Alausa also pointed to the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, which he said was structured for long-term sustainability, and credited improved dialogue with university unions for restoring industrial peace. The government had paid 50 percent of previously withheld salaries and approved a nearly 40 percent salary increase for tertiary staff.
The minister reaffirmed that education would remain a cornerstone of the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda and national development strategy.
