Foundation Holds Medical Outreach Programme In Awka

A human rights activist, Iruoma Obiesie-Onuko, through her In Our Mind Foundation, has organised a medical outreach programme for residents of Umudioka Village, Awka, Anambra State.

The outreach, held at Ndichie Hall, Umudioka Village, provided residents, mostly women, with free medical services, including general health checks, blood sugar and blood pressure tests, health talks, counselling and mental health support.

Speaking during the programme, Obiesie-Onuko, popularly known as “Nurse Angel,” described cardiovascular diseases as conditions that could be effectively managed through early detection and appropriate dietary habits.

She urged residents to prioritise their cardiovascular health to reduce the risk of stroke, heart attack and heart failure.

Obiesie-Onuko said the outreach in her Umudioka community was aimed at helping residents ascertain their health status and receive appropriate medical advice.

According to her, the initiative is part of the foundation’s broader humanitarian activities in different parts of the world, adding that bringing the programme to her home community was a demonstration of the principle that “charity begins at home.”

Also speaking, a resource person at the event and Executive Director of the Integrated Anti-Human Trafficking and Community Development Initiative, Nkiruka Okoye, said the global project promotes human rights and positive change in communities across different parts of the world.

Okoye added that the medical outreach programme was also being conducted in different parts of Nigeria on various dates.

The beneficiaries expressed appreciation to Obiesie-Onuko for providing the medical services free of charge, describing the gesture as that of a worthy daughter of the community.

They pledged to put into practice the health advice and recommendations received during the outreach.

Members of the In Our Mind Foundation team, in their separate remarks, described Obiesie-Onuko as a woman whose life has become a blessing to many, noting that she had transformed numerous lives through her kindness, compassion, generosity and commitment to humanity.
