Federal court has sentenced four men to death by hanging for their roles in the deadly 2022 terrorist attack on St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State, that killed dozens of worshippers.
Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja delivered the judgment on Wednesday, convicting the four on a nine-count terrorism charge that included hostage-taking, kidnapping, terrorism financing and detonation of explosives causing death.
The convicted men are Idris Abdulmalik Omeiza (25), Al Qasim Idris (20), Jamiu Abdulmalik (26) and Abdulhaleem Idris (25). A fifth defendant, Momoh Otuho Abubakar (47), was discharged and acquitted on all charges.
The June 5, 2022, attack during a Pentecost service shocked the nation, leaving at least 41 people dead and over 100 others injured.
