A Ghanaian spiritualist who claimed to have placed a curse on Harry Kane ahead of England’s goalless World Cup draw with Ghana says he has now lifted the jinx.
Nana Kwaku Bonsam, known for his previous claims of supernatural influence on footballers, announced the reversal after England’s frustrating 0-0 stalemate against his country.
“I am going to release Harry Kane so that, in his next match, he can score. Harry, I will come and visit you. Don’t be offended. We are friends,” Bonsam said in a video posted on social media while performing a ritual.
Before the match, Bonsam had declared he was “working on” Kane to prevent him from scoring against Ghana. Kane missed a late chance to win the game when he blazed over from close range after a rebound off the crossbar.
The self-styled “most powerful spiritualist in the whole world” had previously claimed responsibility for Cristiano Ronaldo’s knee injury before the 2014 World Cup.
Following the supposed curse on Kane, British illusionist Uri Geller had vowed to use his own powers to protect the England captain.
England, under coach Thomas Tuchel, remain in contention in the tournament despite the disappointing result against Ghana. Kane will now look to end his scoring drought in the Three Lions’ next fixture.
