Gunmen reportedly abducted the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for Ahiazu State House of Assembly constituency election in Imo State, Nduka Anyanwu, yesterday, and later set him free, a family source told ANN.

The source, who revealed the incident in a police social media platform in Owerri, disclosed that Anyanwu was picked by the armed men, at about 9am yesterday, in his area, while on his way to finalise arrangements for his booth agents at Ahiazu.

However, the source also announced, through the same medium, that Anyanwu has been released. He said: “He was released in a bush at Mbano, following swift calls made by his friends and family to the police.

The State police spokesperson, Michael Abattam, who advised the victim’s family to report the incident to the nearest station for quick intervention when he got wind of the alarm raised by the family at the platform, said he was yet to be officially briefed on the matter.
