The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) have ended the practice of multiple charges for verifying candidates’ O’Level results, fixing a one-time fee of N4,000.
Under the new arrangement, candidates seeking admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions will pay the fee only once to verify their WAEC results through a JAMB platform. The verified outcome will then be shared with their preferred institutions for screening and admission processing.
In a joint statement, the two examination bodies said: “All candidates seeking admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions whose admissions are regulated and coordinated by JAMB will verify their WAEC results once, through JAMB.”
They stressed that tertiary institutions must not impose any additional verification charge. “Candidates shall not be required to pay for another verification,” the statement said, adding that institutions are expected to use the results supplied by JAMB.
The move follows consultations aimed at streamlining the process and reducing the financial and logistical burden on admission seekers, who previously faced repeated payments and trips to institutions or Computer-Based Test centres.
WAEC has authorised JAMB to share the verification outcomes with relevant tertiary institutions. One successful verification can now be used for multiple admission applications, eliminating the need for candidates to re-verify the same results.
JAMB and WAEC said the collaboration prioritises candidates’ interests by cutting unnecessary costs and simplifying the admission process while maintaining the integrity of academic records. Candidates were urged to use the new JAMB Verification Service to complete the process from any internet-enabled location.
