Portugal coach Jorge Jesus on Wednesday declined to expand on Cristiano Ronaldo’s public statement, saying he had read it and was returning to work with the national team.
“I read the statement and now, like I do every day, I’m going to the Federation headquarters to work, to think about the Portuguese national team,” Jesus said.
“Nothing more to say”
The coach then closed the subject. “I have nothing more to say,” he said.
The brief remarks give no sign of how Jesus views Ronaldo’s statement or what it may mean for the squad. He did not take further questions on it.
Focus on the national team
By stressing that he heads to the Federation headquarters every day, Jesus presented the matter as a distraction from his routine rather than a development requiring a response.
Ronaldo, Portugal’s captain and record international goalscorer, remains one of the most scrutinised figures in world football. Any statement from him tends to draw close attention, particularly around the national team.
