Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State expressed concern over the dire state of 32 General Hospitals in the state, which haven’t seen renovations in two decades. This neglect has forced citizens to seek medical care in neighboring states.
To address this, his administration plans to remodel, reconstruct, and equip six of these hospitals, with two in each senatorial zone, starting with General Hospital Rigasa, General Hospital Maigana, General Hospital Gwantu, General Hospital Kafanchan, General Hospital Giwa, and General Hospital Ikara.
Additionally, the Governor highlighted the lack of fencing in over 1,500 schools, particularly in eight local government areas affected by insecurity. In response, two Kaduna-based business moguls, Alhaji Adamu Atta and Alhaji Bukar Shettima, have committed to fencing 100 schools as part of the Safe School Initiative.
Governor Sani emphasized the importance of healthcare and education, stating that education is crucial for social mobility. He pledged heavy investments in these areas, citing recent incidents like the kidnapping of 137 children in Kuriga as motivation for urgent action.
The Governor also addressed infrastructure concerns, announcing plans to complete crucial roads in Zaria, with support from the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas.
Additionally, the government has secured support from various development partners, including the German embassy, African Development Bank, and the office of the Vice President, to aid in agricultural development and rural revitalization. These efforts aim to improve access to healthcare, education, and infrastructure across Kaduna State.
